Denied pension, handicapped person attempts suicide
A physically challenged person, Ramakrishna, attempted suicide by dousing himself with petrol and setting himself ablaze on the premises of the office of Mandal Parishad Development Officer (MPDO) at Bijinapally mandal headquarters on Wednesday.
Battling for life with serious burns
Nagarkurool (Mahabubnagar): A physically challenged person, Ramakrishna, attempted suicide by dousing himself with petrol and setting himself ablaze on the premises of the office of Mandal Parishad Development Officer (MPDO) at Bijinapally mandal headquarters on Wednesday.
Ramakrishna has been visiting the MPDO’s office for the past nine months requesting the authorities to sanction pension to him. On Wednesday, he met MPDO Pandarinath and urged him to grant pension to him. But, the MPDO chided him. Felt humiliated with the MPDO’s reckless answer, Ramakrishna attempted suicide by pouring petrol on himself. Government officials and political leaders, who were present at office premises, did not make an attempt to stop Ramakrishna from taking the extreme step.
Local people came to Ramakrishna’s rescue after he started to cry with burns. They shifted Ramakrishna to Nagarkurnool Area Hospital in an ambulance. He is battling for life with serious burns. The activists of Left parties staged a dharna demanding action against officials who drove Ramakrishna to attempt suicide.
