Hyderabad: Six boys aged between 8 and 14 years met with watery grave in the Lower Manair Dam on Monday. The boys are residents of Saptagiri colony in the city. Those who were drowned were identified as Sai Srujan (14), Gopi (14), Pradyumna (11), Soumith and Sumith (both aged 8) and Sivasai. Soumith and Sumith were twins.

According to information reaching the State headquarters, the boys played cricket in the morning and then went for swimming in the dam waters. As they went in to deep waters, they were drowned. When the boys did not return home, the parents launched a search and in the process went to the dam area, where they found the clothes of the kids.

They then approached the police. The police reached the spot and took up search operations. They recovered the bodies of the six boys.The bodies were sent to the Government Hospital for post-mortem. A pall of gloom descended on the colony with the wailings of the parents and family members. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today expressed shock at the death of six youths at Lower Manair Dam in Karimnagar district.

The Chief Minister expressed serious concern over the recurrence of such incidents. Stating that such incidents bring tragedy to the families, KCR asked the officials and the police department to create awareness among parents to be extra cautious. ‘We need to prevent the tragic incidents and avert the problem’, he said in press communiqué. The chief minister extended condolences to the bereaved families.
