Hyderabad: A week after the CCTV footage was released of a woman allegedly kidnapping a 16-month-old girl from Kachiguda area, the accused was traced on Thursday. The police started interrogating her. Based on a complaint lodged by Gangamma, mother of Akshita on June 14, police registered a kidnap case and took up investigation.


According to police, Gangamma, a native of Kondurg mandal in Mahbubnagar district, along with her child went to Srisailam temple on July 14. While returning, she went to Mahatma Gandhi Bus Stand to take a bus to her village. Posing as a concerned co-passenger, Rajeshwari approached Gangamma and warned her about child kidnappers in the area and took the baby in her arms. Later diverting Gangamma’s attention, Rajeshwari kidnapped the child, the police said.


During the investigation, a special team which was formed took the help of CCTV footage to solve the case. The CCTV footage showed a woman moving suspiciously with a sleeping child in her arms. Reports say that police rescued the child and nabbed Rajeshwari, based on the video footage near MGBS. The woman was arrested and charged under relevant sections of the IPC, sources said. However, police refused to divulge any details.
