Hyderabad: Five persons, including two farmers, were arrested by the Medchal police on Tuesday on the charge of extortion and property worth Rs 1.48 lakh, including 3.5 tolas gold ornaments. were seized. B Ramesh Babu (59) of Quthubullapur lodged a complaint with the police that four masked men had forcibly led him to an ATM and forced him to withdraw Rs 50,000 from his account.

Later, the thugs forced him to go to a private bank at Jeedimetla and withdraw Rs 14 lakh from his account. The culprits, the police said, had persuaded him to go to JJ Nagar by telling that they intended to take his warehouse on lease on the morning of July 16. Ramesh with the help of the bank manager managed to alert the police about the incident. But the culprits managed to give a slip to the police.

The police, on a tip-off, arrested the accused at Suchitra area and recovered part of booty from them. The arrested were identified as P Anka Rao alias Sharma (36) from Guntur district, Jalagam Nagendra Babu (24), private employee from Guntur, Addanki Ramesh (30) from Guntur, Vajroji Chandra Mouli (52) from Quthbullapur and P Chinna Shanker Rao (49) from Guntur.Metropolitan Magistrate remanded them in judicial custody.
