Kakinada: The Sarpavaram police in Kakinada rural arrested a 33-year-old former employee of Sri Ram Transport Finance Company, T Srinivas alia Srinu, and recovered cash, jewellery, and computers from his possession.

The accused cut the iron safe of the company opposite Boat Club in Kakinada with gas cutter for four hours on November 30 and stole Rs 17.75 lakh cash, 230 grams gold jewellery, four computers, one printer along with the cash chest.

Disclosing details to media here on Thursday , district Superintendent of Police M Ravi Prakash said that Rs 13.65 lakh cash, 164 grams gold worth Rs 4.59 lakh and computers worth Rs 1 lakh were recovered on Thursday morning at Kontamuru village in Rajahmundry city suburbs the accused was arrested.

Police also recovered one four-wheeler, two LPG cylinders and a gas cutter used to cut the iron safe from Srinivas, who belongs to Raghudevapuram in Sitagaram mandal of East Godavari. The SP said that the accused had single handedly committed the crime wearing mask and gloves.

The SP said that Srinivas earlier served with the Sri Ram Transport Finance during 2010-11 and was removed from service for misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 50,000.

He was earlier arrested in connection with two theft cases in Rajahmundry city and Nakkapalli in the district. The SP complimented Sarpavaram police for achieving the breakthrough in theft case.
