Two different road accidents on the highways in the State claimed seven lives on Monday. Four people from a marriage party died in a road mishap in Prakasam district while three leaders of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) from Chief Minister’s Kuppam were killed in another accident in Chittoor district on the Chennai-Bengaluru highway. 

Chittoor/Prakasam: Two different road accidents on the highways in the State claimed seven lives on Monday. Four people from a marriage party died in a road mishap in Prakasam district while three leaders of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) from Chief Minister’s Kuppam were killed in another accident in Chittoor district on the Chennai-Bengaluru highway.

Four members of a family who are returning from a marriage function met with an accident when their tractor was hit by a speeding lorry on Monday morning near ABR Engineering College at China Earlapadu village in Kanigiri mandal of Prakasam district. There were 20 people on the tractor when accident took place. Two of the deceased, Naresh and Narasimhulu, died on the spot.

Two other victims, Praveen and Ragamma, succumbed while being shifted to the hospital. Ten others were seriously injured in the mishap. Four of the victims are now being treated in hospital and their condition is serious. Kandukur DSP V Srinivasa Rao visited the spot. A case has been registered against the driver of lorry for causing death of four persons.

In a similar accident, three leaders of the ruling TDP died in Chittor district. Kuppam mandal TDP president Venkata Muni Reddy (40), party workers Ramakrishna Reddy and Suresh Kumar died on the spot after their Bolero vehicle was hit by a speeding lorry near Lakshmaiahkandriga, on the Chennai- Bengaluru highway.

Of the four people travelling in the Bolero vehicle, three lost their lives, while one person survived with severe injuries. He was taken to Vellore Hospital, according to Circle Inspector Adinarayana. A case has been registered in Yadamari police station and the bodies were handed over to the relatives of the deceased after conducting post-mortem at Chittoor Government Hospital, he added.

It is learnt that the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is likely to visit the PES Medical College, Kuppam to attend the final rituals of the victims. District TDP president G Srinivasulu and other functionaries of the district party have expressed their deep condolences to the members of the bereaved families.
