​Hyderabad: The South Zone police on Thursday rescued 39 child labourers from several hazardous industries in Old City and booked cases on 10 persons for employing underage children.

In an early morning cordon and search operation conducted at Bhavaninagar, Rein Bazar, Mohalpura, Shah Ali Banda and Hussaini Alam police stations’ limits, as many as 450 police participated and searched to curtail the illegal activities.

South Zone DCP V Satyanarayana said as many as 46 children who were forced to work in a bangle making and bag making unit were rescued. “Out of 46 children, 39 are minors and seven are adults.

The accused are exploiting the minors for their monetary gain. The children belong to Aurangabad, Gaya, Jamui, Sitamarhi, South 24 Parangas and Dhanbad, were brought on contract basis and forced to work in hazardous environment,” the DCP said.

Seven cases have been booked against 10 persons for employing the children and they were arrested. Rescued children were handed over to the District Child Welfare Committee and the process of reuniting them with families is on, DCP Satyanarayana said.

He said nine fruit godowns were raided and seized after finding that chemicals were imported from China to ripen the fruits (mangos). Tests are being done for the seized chemicals at Horticulture Department, he said.

One held for making adulterated oil
One Mohammed Saber Qureshi (28), an auto driver from Yakuthpura was taken into custody for using cattle waste to extract oil and selling the same by filling in edible oil sachets.

Also, two suspects, Syed Abdul Mateen (22) and Mohammed Omer Sohail (20) of Yakuthpura were bound over under section 109 of CrPc for their suspicious stay. They were produced before the Special Executive Magistrate in Abids and would be taken into custody for questioning.

During the operation, the police also seized 75 bikes and six autos for not possessing valid documents.
