Hyderabad: A 38-year-old housewife was set ablaze by neighbours for asking the latter to remove some iron rods obstructing traffic in front of their house. The woman suffered about 45 per cent burn injuries and is being treated at Gandhi Hospital. Her condition is said to be critical.

The incident occurred in Vaddera basti under the limits of Tukaramgate police station during early hours on Monday, when people from two groups entered into a fist fight following an argument over removing iron rods kept on the road.

According to the police, U Mallesh, who is into construction business, had put some iron rods in front of the house for the past four months. His neighbour P Chandrakala (38) was repeatedly asking him to remove them as they were posing danger to pedestrians. Recently, Chandrakala’s relative tripped over the iron rods and suffered injuries. Heated argument ensued between Chandrakala and Mallesh.

On Monday, Mallesh’s family members invited Chandrakala, Krishna (19) and Srikanth to discuss the issue. When the trio went inside, they started beating up Krishna with bats. Seeing Krishna being attacked, Chandrakala and others went to the rescue of Krishna. Suddenly a person Bunty pulled Chandrakala into his house and threw chilli powder. Soon he set her on fire after pouring petrol on her. The woman was rushed to Gandhi Hospital for treatment.

Speaking to media, North Zone DCP B Sumathi said the victim was being treated at Gandhi Hospital and was in critical condition. “We have apprehended the prime accused Bunty and Mallesh and six others involved in the incident. Two women are absconding and teams have been formed to nab the accused,” the DCP said.
