Hyderabad: An Army jawan was arrested by the Alwal police for firing “in the air” during a birthday party at Machabollaram market last week.

According to police, the accused Lamba Nandeeshwar Yadav, a Lance Naik with 332 Medium Regiment at Ranchi and a resident of Risalabazar in Bollarum in Alwal, had celebrated his son’s first birthday in the city on August 11.

During the celebrations, he consumed liquor along with his friends and relatives. Later, he started in a car with his relatives and when the car reached Machabollaram market, Yadav in an inebriated condition opened four rounds of fire in the air with his licenced pistol.

“After firing, Yadav collected three empty shells before going to his house. Subsequently, one empty round was seized from the spot by the Alwal police the next morning.

A case was registered for probe and Yadav was taken into custody,” said the police. Yadav confessed to having opened fire and was arrested.

The accused, who has been with the Army for the past 13 years and possesses a licence for .32 mm pistol, had come to Hyderabad on August 1.

After the arrest, four live rounds and three used rounds were seized from Yadav. He was produced in the court for judicial remand under Arms Act.
