Hyderabad: Two Tollywood personalities were arrested on Saturday on the charges of smuggling of amphetamine drug. The Cyberabad Special Operations Teams police seized 2.5 kg of drug from the arrested, according to police.

The police said the arrested assistant film director working under Ram Gopal Varma and his associate. Acting on the tip-off, the Jeedimetla police and Cyberabad SOT around 8.30 pm on Friday intercepted a bike at Quthbullapur on which K Venkat Suresh Babu of Nellore and Velmal Kishore of Nizamabad, an assistant film director. The police, during the search, had found five sachets of white powder in a hot box they were carrying.

The powder was tested with the help of clues team and was identified as amphetamine (methaqualine drug). The drug contains cocaine, and is considered as a narcotic drug.

The police said one of the accused, Suresh Babu, was a diamond dealer earlier in Nellore. Later, he made a foray into film-making. He had invested Rs 60 lakh in a film but it failed to hit the screens, the police said.

On interrogation of the accused, the police alerted the Nellore police over the involving of one Srihari, who supplied a kg of drug to the accused. The accused intended to sell the drug to students in Dundigal and Jeedimetla,” said Cyberabad police.
