Mahbubnagar: In a ghastly road accident on National Highway 44 at Amadabaaku village under Kothakota mandal on Saturday, a speeding Scorpio vehicle hit the divider and overturned, killing 5 persons. While four persons died on the spot, one more succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the district hospital here.

The accident happened when six pilgrims were returning by vehicle from Sabarimala. On reaching Amadabaaku village, the driver had lost control of the vehicle while trying avoid collision with a bike coming from opposite direction. The vehicle hit the divider and overturned. The impact of the crash was so violent that four of the passengers were hurled out onto the road and died on the spot.

Another person died while undergoing treatment in hospital. The condition of another persons, identified as Sekhar from Gudibanda village under Addakal mandal, is stated to be critical.

The deceased were identified as Venkataiah from Nagarkurnool, Anjaneilu, Nagaraju and Janardhan of Addkal mandal in Mahabubnagar district. Another person, who also died in hospital, was identified as Raghavendra from Kurnool district.
