Hyderabad: A man allegedly killed his estranged wife by slitting her throat publicly at Begumpet on Tuesday, apparently because he was peeved at her decision to go back to her parental home despite counselling at a police station for marital harmony.

According to the police, the woman, identified as Kavita, 30, a resident of Miyapur, was married to Eshwar of Begumpet nine years ago. The couple have three kids. The woman left her marital home on November 5, following a family dispute.

After Eshwar’s family lodged a complaint with the police, Kavita and Eshwar were called for counselling on Tuesday.

Kavita had come to the police station along with her father, Satyanarayana, and brother, Pavan. After counseling, when the three of them were waiting at Prakash Nagar bus stop to find transport to Miyapur, Eshwar reportedly pounced on Kavita and slit her throat with a knife.

Kavita’s father and brother suffered injuries while trying to protect her. Kavita died on the spot. Her father and brother were later hospitalized with grievous wounds.
