Hyderabad: The west zone Task Force sleuths on Wednesday arrested a person for smuggling in gold from Dubai. According to police, the accused identified as Syed Abdul Hai Tameem (24), a resident of Golconda, had contact with Syed Afzal Hussain (32), settled at Sharjah, UAE, for 12 years. The duo hatched a plan to smuggle gold from Dubai to Hyderabad by purchasing it at low price there and selling the same in Hyderabad at higher price for their illegal gain.

Afzal used to send flight ticket and visa to Tameem and the latter would reach Dubai, the former would hand over gold in different forms like powder, paste and ornaments at Dubai and send him back to Hyderabad through flights. For this service, he would give Tameem some amount as commission.

In the last week of February, 2019, Afzal called Tameem to Dubai and handed over 550 gram gold in form of paste and asked him to sell the same to needy persons in Hyderabad. On Friday, Tameem returned Hyderabad from Dubai along with gold which was in the form of paste, covered with cloth and ends of cloth were stitched.

On credible information, police apprehended Tameem on Wednesday and seized 550 grams of gold worth of Rs 17.5 lakh, one passport and two cell phones from his possession.The accused and seized gold were handed over to the Principal Commissioner of Customs for further action.
