Hyderabad: It’s curtains for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for now! Senior officials of Secondary Education Department have reportedly decided to stop holding the exam in view of the short time, lack of staff as well as ensuing poll notification.

The officials have in fact assured that the test would be held before the end of February itself.

With this decision, the state government poured water on the aspirations of over 4.5 lakh aspiring teachers. It is now up to the next government, probably in two states, to hold the test on a date convenient to both of them. The Primary and Secondary Education Departments of the new states would decide on the modalities of the exam. Nearly ten lakh rupees have been collected from the candidates towards registration fee and this amount may be distributed to both the states in the ratio in accordance with the number of applicants, top sources said.

TET has been postponed thrice since it has been announced first in June last year. Agitations, Movements and the bifurcation issues have forced the officials to defer the all important test. Finally, the officials have announced that the exam would be held on February 9, which could also be not taken up due to APNGOs agitation.

The DSC examination for recruitment of 20, 458 teacher posts was also halted due to the bifurcation process. Though the Finance Ministry has given green signal for the recruitment six months back, it could not be taken forward due to the division of the state issue. This would also be done after the polls, officials said.
