Hyderabad: In what could be termed as a significant development for Telangana medical aspirants, 50 additional seats has been added to the Gandhi Medical College and 50 additional seats for Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal, are in the pipeline.
Health Minister Dr T Rajaiah on Thursday said that the Nizambad Government College already got 100 seats and now the Medical Council of India (MCI) has accepted 50 additional seats for Gandhi Medical College. “A total of 50 additional seats for Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal is under process. We gave assurance to MCI that the college would fulfill the demands put forward by the council for granting additional seats,” said the Health Minister.
While Andhra Pradesh was granted additional 350 seats for this academic year, the Telangana College had hard luck for the additional seats. “In united Andhra Pradesh, all the colleges in Telangana region were neglected before bifurcation. We would strive hard to get additional seats by providing good facilities,” Rajaiah made it clear. Recently MCI officials visited colleges in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for granting additional seats to existing medical colleges.
It is learnt that MCI found that lack of proper infrastructure in Government Medical College in Nizambad, Gandhi Medical College in Hyderabad, Andhra Medical College, Nellore and SV Medical College in Tirupati. Medicos and doctor fraternity felt that the government should work on providing good infrastructure rather than pleasing MCI for additional seats every year.
