Haryana Chief Minster Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday approved starting of the first-of-its-kind \'State Institute of Excellence in Basic Sciences\' (SIBS) in Bhiwani from the academic session 2016-17.SIBS would be established at Chaudhary Bansi Lal University, Bhiwani offering studies in Bio-technology, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences and Pharmaceutical Sciences, an official spokesperson said.
Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minster Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday approved starting of the first-of-its-kind 'State Institute of Excellence in Basic Sciences' (SIBS) in Bhiwani from the academic session 2016-17.SIBS would be established at Chaudhary Bansi Lal University, Bhiwani offering studies in Bio-technology, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences and Pharmaceutical Sciences, an official spokesperson said.
The institute would offer Integrated Five Years Course in the fields of Botany, Zoology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with dual degree programme, that is, B.Sc Science after completion of three years and M.Sc. degree, after completion of five years in their respective subjects, they said.
The total intake capacity in five courses to be offered by the SIBS would be 145, including 45 of Chemistry, 20 each of Physics, Botany and Zoology and 40 of Mathematics. The eligibility for seeking admission would be 10+2 pass with science background.
The institute would serve as a resource which would offer high quality in undergraduate teaching embedded in post graduate and research environment, they said. Apart from the recruitment of world-class faculty, a state-of-the-art laboratory building would also be constructed with essential core facilities to house and support their research, he added. The spokesperson said that to begin with, SIBS would be established in the proposed building of Engineering College lying vacant in Sui village in the district.
The modern flexible integrated and seamless curriculum developed by Baba Atomic Energy Centre, TATA Institute of Fundamental Research, Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai would be adopted in toto, they said. This curriculum gives considerable emphasis on practical training and development of the analytical problem-solving skills in addition to formal learning, they added.
