The NorthCap University’s Team TVN comprising of students Tanyam Popli (Mechanical Engineering), Shivam Nautiyal (Mechanical Engineering) and Vibhor Mittal (Electronics and Communication) have been selected to compete in a global environment at Delta Cup 2017 Contest at South Asia level and showcase their creativity and innovation through their project based on Smart Machines, Smart Robots and Smart Manufacturing. The project titled ‘Self-Check-out System in Retail’ is a highly applicable design for use in malls around the globe with capacity to save shoppers time and increased sales. Delta China, a branch of Delta Electronics, Taiwan based organization is holding the finals of the contest as a Delta Advanced Automation Design Contest 2017 from 23-26 July 2017 in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, China.

Vibhor Mittal, student, The NorthCap University said, “We are thankful to The NorthCap University for giving us the opportunity to participate in the contest. We are also thankful to Prof. Ojha who with his vast industrial experience helped us bridge the gap between reality and the feasibility of our project.”

NCU’s project is named ‘Self-Check-out System in Retail’ a complete software and hardware model. The students have designed a combination of cloud-controlled self-checkout and gating system. A variety of goods can be scanned through the mobile phone checkout app which was developed, maintained and integrated by the students. The goods will be placed on the conveyor belt and scanning will take place. After the complete scanning process items will be sent to the carton through the conveyor belt and automatic packaging will take place. The payment system will provide receipts and unlock the barcode for access control. It is an integrated system of mobile interface, a bulk scanning / sealing station and a smart boom barrier all controlled by a cloud server so as to have faster checkout from a retail store.

More than 75 Asian teams from China, Taiwan, India and Thailand will be competing and this is the first time when India is participating for Delta Cup 2017. NCU has bagged a seat to represent India in the prestigious international forum ‘Delta Cup 2017’. Out of 52 teams from six universities across India, three teams have been selected to represent India during ‘Delta Cup 2017’ and present their innovative project proposal in China. They are Gurugram’s The NorthCap University, Punjab’s LPU (Picaso 4.0) and Vellore’s VIT (topic: Smart Robots).

The final award will be announced on July 27th in the official website of the competition and the relevant media, and held in Wujiang City, Jiangsu Province awards ceremony.

The awards will be given in the following categories:
· Grand Prize: 2 teams, bonus 10,000 yuan
· First prize: 13 team, bonus 3,000 yuan
· Second prize: 20 team, bonus 2,000 yuan
· Third prize: 40 team, bonus 1,000 yuan
