Once upon a time, a woman went to the market and brought home a potato, a tomato and an onion. Back home, she cut the potato, cooked and ate it. The tomato and the onionfelt sorry for the potato and cried over its death.
The next day, it was tomato's turn. The onion cried bitterly. For the tomato was dead too.
The third day, as the woman was about to cut the onion, the onion felt very sad as there was no one to cry over his death. God saw ,"Now onwards the one who cuts you will cry for you."
This is the reason why we cry when we cut an onion.
