Hyderabad: News making round that as many as 200 polling booths in Telangana may be ordered for re-polling for the just concluded elections on April 30. According to sources, there were many incidents in which EVMs have gone to Factory mode and had to be reset during the cores of ibid elections. Reportedly, the State Election Commission had sent the polling details and the information about the EVMs that went into Factory Mode to the Central Election Commission.

ECIL, the manufacturer of these EVMs, confirmed that they could retrieve the data before the reset. Nevertheless, it is learnt that Central Election Commission prefers to go for re-polling than to approach the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer), in these 200 polling booths across Telangana.

From the other side, State election commission and district collectors are of the opinion that it would be very difficult to convince both the people and political parties for re-polling - that too after more than 10 days of the wrapping up of the elections. Nevertheless, it is learnt that the Central Election Commission is strong-minded for re-polling. If the decision is made final, the re-polling in these booths will take place on May 12, added sources.
