Mangalagiri (Guntur): Valuables worth Rs 18 lakh were stolen from a farmer’s house at Nutakki village of Mangalagiri mandal in Guntur district on Sunday. The inmates went to a marriage function at Mangalagiri when the thieves gained entry and stole Rs two lakh in cash, 300 grams of gold jewellery, seven kgs of silver articles and $700.
According to house owner Sambi Reddy, his family members were shocked to find opened safe and locker on their return home around 2.30 am. They found articles scattered all over the room. He reported to the police that they left the house at 7pm the previous day.
The police suspect that the thieves had resorted to the crime taking the opportunity of the inmates’ absence. They guess somebody close to the family members could have resorted to the crime. Guntur North Zone DSP M Madhusudhana Rao visited the crime scene.
Clues team of the police has also searched for evidence.
