Women can play many roles today

Looking from a mother’s perspective, the mothers in the contemporary world are struggling hard to strike a balance between family and professional life. Even celebrities like Angelina Jolie in December vowed that she was giving up her acting career to spend more time at home with her growing children.

We all agree that motherhood is the most difficult job of all as well as the most rewarding. But we seem reluctant to acknowledge that the job at times can be both heartbreaking as well as heart warming and fulfilling it has an impact on our capacity to do other things.

Balancing the responsibilities of motherhood with being an ambitious career woman can often take a heavy toll on women, with many feeling guilty about the loss of family time and the increased pressure to achieve in the workplace as a result.

On the flip side, with all the focus on women in the workplace today, it can also be difficult for those who want to focus on being a homemaker and mother. It's important to recognise that women can carry many different roles today and whether you are a stay at home mother or a working one, there is equal value and importance in both.
