The annual ‘fish prasadam’ ritual, organised by Bathini family, would be administered at Nampally Exhibition Grounds on the ‘Mrigasira Karthi’ day on June 8 and would conclude the next day.

Bathini Harinath Goud, secretary, ‘Bathini-Mrigasira Karthi Fish Prasadam’, met Chief Minister KCR recently who assured all provisions to be made for the event.

Harinatha Goud will administer the medicine along with his four brothers.

He said, “Mrigasira Karthi would begin at 10.15 pm on June 8. The administering of fish prasadam (medicine) would begin exactly at that time and end at 9 pm on June 9. For asthma patients who fail to take the medicine during those two days, the prasadam would be administered at my house in Doodbowli for three more days.”

The family is preparing 200 kg of fish prasadam to cater to nearly 4 lakh people. The family has been distributing the prasadam at the Exhibition Grounds since 1989, but confusion regarding the venue resulted in chaos in 2012. One person died and several others were injured in a stampede at Kattedan, which lacked the infrastructure to accommodate large crowds.

“The authorities have promised to make proper arrangements for the smooth conduct of the annual event, and several city-based voluntary organisations have come forward to provide basic amenities to people,” he said.

“One should also strictly follow the prescribed diet restrictions for the medicine to be effective. After one takes fish prasadam, one should take the extra quantity of medicine given and make six tablets out of it and dry them in shade, preferably under a fan. These tablets should be taken, one on empty stomach in the morning and the other after dinner for three days,” Goud explained.

Dismissing the Jana Vignana Vedika leaders, who made a hue and cry over the miraculous effects of fish prasadam, Harinatha pointed out that laboratory tests had proven that fish prasadam was not harmful.

“The formula of the fish prasadam is known only to 22 of my family members,” he added.
