State-of-the-art int’l stadium in city soon.An international stadium on par with the one at Gachibowli in Hyderabad will come up in 7.91 acres of land at Vidyadharapuram at an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore.
An international stadium on par with the one at Gachibowli in Hyderabad will come up in 7.91 acres of land at Vidyadharapuram at an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore. The State Government which is keen on developing sports infrastructure has already sent proposals to the Central Government in this regard seeking sanction of funds for its construction.

District Sports Development Officer (DSDO) P Ramakrishna said, “The previous Congress government proposed to construct a greenfield stadium at Vidyadharapuram at an estimated cost of Rs 2.1 crore. Following the proposal, the Krishna District Sports Authority (KDSA) identified land for the construction of the stadium and laid the foundation stone for it.
Due to non-release of requisite funds by the previous government, the stadium project failed to take off. The cost of the project escalated due to delay in its execution and was abandoned. The Telugu Desam Party Government which wanted to utilise the land identified for the purpose of construction of the stadium, had come up with fresh proposals as the residual AP needs better sports infrastructure.”

“The proposed stadium will be the first multipurpose stadium of international standards in Andhra Pradesh. It will have all the modern amenities to host both indoor and outdoor sports events. It will have synthetic badminton and volleyball courts and an athletics track of international standards.
The stadium will be constructed in such a way that it will serve as a benchmark for the development of sports infrastructure in the country. The construction of the stadium will be taken up soon after the sanction of funds for the project. The stadium will be a venue for major national and international tournaments in the near future,” he added.
