IIT coaching in municipal schools soon: Narayana

In what could be seen as a game-changer for the under-privileged studying in urban municipal schools, the Minister for Municipal Administration, P Narayana, is embarking on a mission to employ IIT foundation course into the 8th, 9th and 10th classes in municipal schools.

Enthusiasm is brewing among the parents and students of the schools and the announcement is kindling hope in students and their parents who otherwise had resigned themselves to fate. However, some parents are skeptical about the course as they think there will be limitations and problems.

Lakshman Narayana, parent of Jeevitha, an 8th class student of the municipal school, has high hopes on the government and feels that the move will revolutionise the education system in the city. Speaking at a parents-students-teachers meeting at Mangalagiri, minister Narayana reiterated his resolve to transform the municipal schools into centres of excellence on Monday.

As of now there is a trust deficiency among public on the quality of education, which is also the reason why the schools which can otherwise accommodate five lakh students have a mere strength of 2.5 lakh. “Faith will be instilled in parents and children on the schools by solving problems and boosting infrastructure in the schools in the next three to nine months.

The IIT foundation course will be incorporated in all the schools and in classes from 8-10. Very soon municipal high schools will be on the IIT map of the country,” said P Narayana, announcing the course. The mission of inculcating IIT foundation course will be unveiled in Guntur on May 22 by the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
