Hyderabad: Students of the School of Engineering Sciences and Technology (SEST) protested against a course (M.Tech material engineering) that has been scrapped by the college administration. The students say that the college administration’s decision to remove the course from this academic year will have huge impact on those pursuing the course.

Students of SEST sought an appointment with the Vice Chancellor of UoH to discuss the issue and also requested the VC to take necessary action before the deadline for the registration of current semester so the students can continue the course. “If the administration cancels the course it would not only affect the present students but also the ambition of many aspiring students would stand shattered,” said students in the letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor of UoH. Students say that the course, materials engineering is an emerging and advanced discipline with a lot of innovative research currently underway at SEST.

“We students have been attending the course for the last 2 years without the recognition of AICTE approval, moreover from last year there was no stipend for GATE students either. AICTE approval is not a mandatory precursor for any course, particularly for a premier institute like the University of Hyderabad (UoH),” rued students in the letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor of UoH.
