If everything goes according to plan, the ‘Reform Drive’ launched by South Zone police to reform ‘uneasy’ youths in the Old City would set in motion after Ramzan. After repeat incidents of violence among youngsters especially in the Old City, South Zone Police, in a joint collaboration with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Maruti Suzuki planned to train and recruit youngsters in an attempt to put a check on crime among youth.
“Acting as a nodal agency, we tied up with the GHMC and Maruti Suzuki to recruit youngsters. This is an attempt of community policing towards the troubled youth in providing employment in various companies,” DCP (South Zone) V Satyanarayana said adding that the police department laid the groundwork for the recruitment process and would commence after the completion of Holy month of Ramzan.
Maruti Suzuki will train as many as 600 youngsters especially from Moghalpura, Hussaini Alam, Tappachabutra, Rein Bazar, Mirchowk and Shah Ali Banda areas in batches free of cost. “After completion of their stipulated training, they would be given a chance to join GHMC as staff drivers with a valid license,” the DCP added.
Also the ‘Operation Roam-Yo’s’ launched by the South Zone police, in the wake of the death of a youngster in a friendly street fight at Panjeshah recently, received accolades from all quarters. “Our main aim is to prevent youth from roaming around at night and indulging in unsocial activities.
By training them in various semi-skilled jobs, they can be recruited in private companies. We are expecting 1,500 more people to join in this programme. We saw a good response in the home guard recruitment examination held recently,” the DCP said adding that poor youth would be supplied free food and study material by the GHMC.
