Sports vital for personality growth: SAAP chief

A two-day national seminar by PB Siddhartha College of Arts and Science on `Personality Development through Sports’ was inaugurated by Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) Chairman PR Mohan at Siddhartha Auditorium in the city on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohan said that students should give equal importance to academics and sports. Considering its importance for the holistic growth of students, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu initiated several measures to promote sports in Andhra Pradesh in a large scale.

Physical education teachers should strive to put AP on the top in sports by motivating students to take active part in the discipline. “Participation in sports helps students develop team spirit and leadership qualities besides being physically fit and mentally relaxed,” the SAAP chief said.

Sessions on Yoga for Fitness and Wellness, Sports and Socialisation, Science of Sports Training and other topics were held on the first day of the UGC sponsored seminar. Chess Grandmaster Lalith Babu who is an alumnus of Siddhartha College, was felicitated on the occasion.

Former director of physical education P Chinnappa Reddy, District Sports Development Officer (DSDO) P Ramakrishna, college principal MVN Padma Rao, Siddhartha Academy office-bearers and others were present at the seminar. A large number of PETs, sportspersons and students attended the seminar.
