Speaking about Turanth at a news conference, Sudhakar said, “The cashless transaction system ensures transparency besides saving valuable time and eliminating circulation of counterfeit notes. It is a step towards Digital India Project launched by the Centre.

Turanth user can avail himself of as many as 26 services with debit and credit cards of any bank at a lower transaction cost. As many as 108 post offices in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States have been integrated with Turanth network. A sum of Rs 1,000 can also be withdrawn using the service which is really beneficial to people living in rural areas.”

The Postal Department is making strides towards growth by making use of advanced technology. It brought down the overall deficit from Rs 381 crore in 2012-13 to Rs 268 crore in 2013-14. The deficit decreased further to Rs 121 crore last fiscal. The department surpassed the turnover target of Rs 1,166 crore for 2014-15 by realising Rs 1,271 crore through introduction of innovative services, he said.

Exuding confidence that the department could wipe out the deficit fully by the next financial year, he said, “We are planning to launch `Pick Post' which runs on GPS. As part of the service, a postal employee will pick up the post from the doorstep of a sender.

We are also promoting Sukanya Samriddhi scheme in a big way.” T Vasantha Lakshmi, Chief Manager of SBI, Vijayawada, M Sampath, Post Master General of Vijayawada, K Somasundaram, Director of Postal Services, and others were also present.
