Concern over increase in prices of essential commodities. Members of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) demanded the BJP-TDP governments to bring down the spiraling prices of the essential commodities to protect the interest of common man.

Members of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) demanded the BJP-TDP governments to bring down the spiraling prices of the essential commodities to protect the interest of common man.

Addressing a meeting on Monday, AIDWA city president K Sridevi accused the NDA government for its failure to control the prices of essential commodities including edible oils, sugar and pulses, which were out of reach of the common man.

“Unfortunately, there is no hike in the salaries of the labourers in proportion to the rise in the prices of essential commodities,” she said. “Majority of the children of middleclass families are deprived of proper diet in the face of skyrocketing prices of essential commodities.

The worst affected by the price hikes are the poor and the middle class who have limited income. The government should come up with an initiative to strengthen public distribution system (PDS) to protect the interest of consumers,” she demanded.

National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) City President P Durgamba said that women associations will stage a mass protest in the city on Saturday, to press the government over the issue. DYFI State secretary Surya Rao, Progressive Organization for Women (POW) city leaders K Durga, secretary P Padma and others also spoke.
