A bigger development was that of the three Hyderabad boys who have been selected for the 45-day national training stint two are from the champion outfit, which has been naturally elevated to the national finals.
In an absorbing finals at Gymkhana Ground here on Wednesday, HPS put it across St Andrews 3-1 (in penalties).
All Saints High School student Md Ziauddin Samal and Abhilash Mag and Vinesh Kumar, both from HPS, will head for the national training stint where they will further their skills under qualified coaches.
Three players were also conferred specially instituted awards on the occasion. They included HPS student Nishal Buddu (Star Sports Most Promising Player), HYder Ali of Disneyland High School (Parle G Genius Highest scorer) and Deepak Kumar Aggarwal (Don Bosco) who was bestowed with the IDBI Federal Life Insurance ‘Secure Hands’ honour.
In an inspirational message, former India captain Victor Amalraj exhorted the youngsters to nurture their ambitions for the beautiful game without compromising on their academic pursuits.
Dr Md Lathifuddin, Secretary of Telangana Football Association and Mini-Football Association of India and C Sivakumar lauded the efforts of former Iran international who has been based in Kolkata for the past decade, Jamshid Nassiri, the chief mentor of Young Heroes for his ability to tap young talent at the school level.
Later, the triumphant boys and coaches were felicitated by their principal Ramandeep Kaur Samra in the school premises on their momentous achievement.
