It is almost one and a half years since the talks for developing alternative roads around the Army Ordnance Corps (AOC) but there has been no development on this front. Local Army authorities say that that the corporation submitted a Google map. There is no mention of the extent of land required.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials say that the proposal was submitted. The Defence ministry deputed a senior officer and a meeting with the Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma and GHMC commissioner earlier this year too did not yield result. B T Srinivasan, general secretary, United Federation of Residents Welfare Associations says, “A collective survey by the GHMC and Army officials which was to take place did not happen.

Residents staying on the periphery of AOC centre have been complaining that the GHMC has not taken an initiative on alternative roads.

A detailed project report to improve the road infrastructure with the extent of land required is still not submitted. Army officials say that they have not received any information on the extent of land that is needed to develop alternative roads. Also, the procedure is to be initiated to handover the land.

With the Army officials announcing the closure of Gough Road from December 1, 2015 the Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) are planning to stage protests. Mallikarjuna Rao, resident of RK Puram, said, “More than a lakh of people residing at RK Puram, Dr A S Rao Nagar, Sainikpuri, Malkajgiri and beyond would be cut off from what has been the mainstay as far as reaching Secunderabad.” Another resident of Vayupuri said, “The closure will have far reaching consequences, people will have to drive longer distances and time for commuting would increase ten-fold.”

If the Gough Road is closed from December 1, 2015, residents of Malkajgiri, Safilguda, Moula Ali, Anandbagh, Neredmet, Sainikpuri, Vayupuri, A S Rao Nagar, ECIL, Cherlapalli, Nagaram, Saket, Dammaiguda, Kapra, Kowkoor, Jawahar Nagar and beyond would be affected and the already crowded Kharkhana Road would have to bear the extra load.
