The film ‘Natyam’ by young filmmaker Revanth was released recently at Kirtilals Jewellers as a way of supporting performing arts and promoting art and culture. Clips from the short film were launched by the female lead of the film, Sandhya Raju and socialist Pinky Reddy in the presence of playback singer Sunitha, Kuchipudi artiste Dr Alekhya and fashionista Shilpa Reddy.
The story is one of empowerment of women as it depicts the struggle of the lead character, a young, devoted married woman Kalyani to achieve artistic excellence through her passion for Kuchipudi. The trailer, which may be found online, gives a sneak peek into the absorbing tale.
The stellar performances by the lead cast as well as supporting artistes, makes this a compelling movie to watch. The trailer itself speaks volumes as it helps a viewer connect with the audience easily. Well-known Kuchupudi artiste Sandhya Raju, who plays the role of Kalyani portrays the internal conflict between external comforts and thirst to pursue her inner passion perfectly.
She flawlessly sinks into the role and transforms herself into a mythical Kuchupudi beauty while her co-star adapted well to his role as a husband who is determined to make his wife’s dream come true. “I wanted to be part of this brilliantly scripted short film by Revanth, because the subject is very close to my heart.
As a Kuchupudi artiste, what I liked the most is that the narrative is centered on a woman’s desire and the social question faced by most married women. I felt that the story will inspire many women,” Sandhya Raju said.
Revanth, the young aspiring filmmaker says, “‘Natyam’ is an inspirational story told in forty minutes. It is an entertaining short film with a purpose to promote art, communicate a message, experiment and reach out to millions that deal with conflicts like Kalyani’s.”
