Hyderabad: Nearly 1,400 teachers in 630 aided schools across Telangana are crying foul as their salaries have been kept on hold for about three months for no reason by the Education department.

Teachers have accused the government of failing to release nearly Rs 50 crore as their dues have been pending since December. The undue delay on the part of officials has left teachers disappointed. They lamented that their situation was no better even after the formation of Telangana State.
“In erstwhile Andhra Pradesh State, salaries used to get delayed for about one month, but after the formation of Telangana State, the delay in payment of salaries has become routine for government. We actively took part in the separate statehood movement and this is the end result of participating in it. Once in a while our salaries used to get delayed,” said a teacher, who does not wish to be named.
The teachers said they were finding it difficult to meet their day-to-day requirements. “There are several teachers who are the lone bread-winner in a family, and it is becoming difficult for them to run the show. Besides, we have to pay out loan instalments,” said T Geetanjali, State general secretary, Telangana Aided Teachers’ Guild.
While aided teachers got their PRC, the long pending demand for health cards, salaries on the first day of every month, appointment of new teachers and promotions have remained unresolved. The teachers said school managements had been closing down schools due to dearth of teachers.
“We met Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari and also MP K Kavita and gave a representation. Though Kadiyam Srihari promised to help us out, nothing such fructified till date,” she said.
Responding to queries, School Education Commissioner G Kishan said, “I cleared the budget of all aided school teachers. Some teachers in rural areas might have some problem with regards to salaries. I have instructed DEOs to release the amount without further delay.”
