A sensitising training programme was conducted for sewerage workers of HMWSSB on Tuesday. The workshop was focused on using of safety equipment and the need for taking safety measures in dealing with sewerage problems. Speaking on the occasion,

M Dana Kishore, Managing Director, HMWSSB observed that due to negligence of a contractor in not taking necessary precautionary measures recently a ghastly incident occurred a Madhapur. Further, he said to avoid such unfortunate incidents, necessary precautionary measures should be taken.

He informed that the Board has the required safety equipment but the workers were not using them regularly. “They should make it a regular habit of using them to avoid any untoward incidents,” he said.

He instructed the Director (Operations) to identify the localities from where these labourers are usually hired for sewerage works and training be given to them by Board’s Senior sewerage staff members about dealing with sewerage works.

For clearing sewer overflows in small lanes, by lanes the Board is introducing small Airtech machines very soon. Easy to remove silt from manholes, Silt grabbers are being procured.

The Board is contemplating to provide life Insurance Coverage for Rs 10 lakh in the event of any untoward incident happening to sewerage workers.

Among those who attended the training session include G Rameshwara Rao, Director (Operations), Azmeera Krishna, Director (P&A), CGM(E), GMs(E), Mangers(E), sewerage workers of HMWSSB.

Earlier the gathering observed two minutes silence in remembrance of the deceased in Madhapur drainage mishap.
