UoH alumnus bags American India Foundation Clinton Fellowship
Sumedha Goswami, MA Communication (2009-2011), was awarded the American India Foundation (AIF) Clinton Fellowship to work at Salaam Bombay Foundation, where she will be majorly responsible for training “at risk” street children on video making so that they can make meaningful videos on the issues of their community.

The fellowship will fund her work and stay with the organisation while she is placed at the Foundation from September 2016 – June 2017.
Sumedha got to know about the AIF fellowship back in 2011 while working with Video Volunteers, Goa. This fellowship was not open to Indian nationals in 2011 and she applied for the fellowship in 2014, while working with the Dr Reddy’s Foundation.
The host organisation – Salaam Bombay Foundation engages “at risk” children, through in-school leadership programmes and after-school sports, arts, media and vocational training academies. These programmes build their self-esteem and give them the confidence to stay in school.
The William J Clinton Fellowship for Service in India is helping to shape the next generation of leaders committed to impactful change while also strengthening civil society to be more efficient and effective.
The Fellowship pairs a select number of highly skilled young professionals with leading NGOs and social enterprises in India in order to accelerate impact and create effective projects that are replicable, scalable, and sustainable.
Through ten months of service and fieldwork, Fellows gain knowledge of development on the ground in the fields of education, livelihoods, public health, and social enterprise, honing and harnessing their growing skills as change agents capable of effecting lasting change.
Together, Fellows and development sector leaders form dynamic partnerships to exchange knowledge and skills while sharing their passion and commitment to open new ways of looking at the world – ultimately transforming both the individual and organisation. It’s a three-stage highly competitive application process with an acceptance rate of four per cent.
