The 23-year-old Royal Bengal Tiger (Munni) expired on at Nehru Zoological Park on Monday. She was suffering with old age complications for the past one year.

The 23-year-old Royal Bengal Tiger (Munni) expired on at Nehru Zoological Park on Monday. She was suffering with old age complications for the past one year.

The tiger was constantly getting fits and convulsions and was under treatment and intensive care. The hind legs had neurological problems and it was unable to bare its weight on its legs showing symptoms of paraplegia.

Munni was born on June 7, 1994 in captivity to father Murugan (male) and mother Karuna (female).

A statement released by the zoo officials, said, “The average life span of Royal Bengal Tiger in wild is about 15 years and in captivity is about 18 years. But Munni lived a life of 23 years. Already it surpassed its lifespan.

The Management has taken all care including experts opinion of Dr M Navin Kumar, Dy. Director (Rtd) and Zoo Consultant for treatment of Munni form time to time. May her soul rest in peace.”
