​Mahabubabad: The elected representatives of Bayyaram mandal in the district have been continuing their campaign towards construction of steel plant at Bayyaram.

A group of elected representatives led by ZPTC of Bayyaram, Gouni Ilaiah have met the District Collector Preethi Meena here on Friday and submitted a memorandum seeking to take their concern to the notice of the State government.

Sarpanches Payam Kavitha, A Vijaya Kumari and B Shanker, Bayyaram Cooperative Society chairman Ramagiri Biksham, MPTCs J Yakaiah, S Seetaramulu, T Anuradha, deputy sarpanch Ch Rangaiah, the society directors N Venkateshwarlu and G Biksham, leaders U Padma, T Veerabhadram, U Satyam and B Madhu were among those who met the Collector.

Speaking on the occasion, Ilaiah stated that the UPA government has promised to construct a steel plant at Bayyaram when the AP Reorganisation Bill was passed in February 2014. It was proposed to built the plant with an estimated expenditure of Rs 30, 000 crore.

Telangana Legislative Assembly and Khammam Zilla Parishad have also passed a resolution seeking to construct the proposed Steel Plant at Bayyaram. There has been ample supply of water, dolomite and coal besides availability of government land at Bayyaram.

Therefore the State and Central governments should make serious efforts to construct the plant, Ilaiah said. Pointing out at the discussions going on among political circles, the elected representatives have complained that the government was planning to hand over the project to private sector and to build it at non-schedule area like Mahabubabad.
