Superintendent of Police M Srinivas has made it clear that there is no recruitement for the ISIS in the district.
Adilabad: Superintendent of Police M Srinivas has made it clear that there is no recruitement for the ISIS in the district.
He told the Hans India here on Thursday that special focus was being laid on human trafficking which would be curbed with an iron hand.
Excerpts of interview:
The Hans India: What is the response from the police to the complaints in the police stations?
Superintendent of Police M Srinivas: Justice would be done to each and every complainant and if the police did not take action there would be disciplinary proceedings against them.
The complainant need not visit the police station. Police would respond to the complaint sent through Whatsapp message. Every complaint would be placed online. Modern technology is not available in some police stations in the district and all the police stations would be modernised soon.
THI: The traffic in Adilabad is chaotic. What action are you contemplating to improve it?
SP: It is a fact that the traffic in Adilabad town is chaotic. The vendors are doing business encroaching the roads and footpaths. People are parking vehicles everywhere posing severe obstruction to the traffic much to the inconvenience of commuters.
The police are trying hard to sensitise the street vendors and if they do not change their ways, cases would be filed against them. Eighty Closed Circuit Cameras would be installed throughout the town which would prevent traffic offences apart from providing security to the citizens. Citizens would be sensitised about traffic offences by arranging flexi boards in the town.
THI: Is there any information with the police regarding the IS recruits from the district?
SP: Nobody joined IS from the district and people are sensitising people about such issues from time to time. There are no terrorist activities in the district.
THI: What about the influence of Maoists in the district?
SP: There used to be Maoist influence in the district. The movement of Maoists is under constant check. The police personnel in border police stations are constantly watching their movement.
THI: There are reports of human trafficking in the district? What precautions you are taking to prevent it.
SP: Special focus is being laid against human trafficking. The trafficking victims are personally stating that they went on their own. Still trafficking is a serious offence and action would be initiated against them. The traffickers are under constant vigil and special teams would be deployed in rural areas.
THI: A number of rape cases are reported in the district. What precautions you take to prevent them?
SP: Mainly minor girls are subjected to rape in the district which is a grave offence. A number of rape cases were reported against minor girls working as domestic servants. Action would be taken against such incidents.
THI: Adilabad has become notorious for suicides. What precautions are you taking to avert them?
SP: It is true people are committing suicide for petty reasons. A number of farmers cultivate cotton in the district and every house has some pesticide or other.
In case of even small altercation mostly women and youth are committing suicide. A counseling centre with a toll-free helpline at the district headquarters was set up to prevent suicides. Awareness programmes are being conducted in the villages to stop people from killing themselves.
THI: There has been increase in bootlegging, matka gambling and smuggling of gutkha. What action do you propose to prevent them?
SP: Matka gambling and Gutkha smuggling is rampant from across the border in Maharashtra. The raids on gambling dens and smuggling would be intensified.
The bootlegging is a menace and with the coordination of Excise police, it would be effectively checked. Preventive Detention Act would be used against the gamblers and smugglers.
THI: The police have undertaken sensitisation programme against open defecation. What is the response from people so far?
SP: People are going for open defecation though the public toilets are available. The police have undertaken massive propaganda against open defecation. Nuisance cases would be filed against people if they go for open defecation.
