Kamareddy: Municipal Commissioner Vijaya Lakshmi said tenders have been called to lay roads with Rs 4 crore from 14th Finance Commission.

She said she would strive for all-round development of the town. She gave an exclusive interview to The Hans India regarding the steps that would be taken for the district’s development.

The excerpts

Q: People say that there is no development in the town, which is also the district headquarters even three months after the formation of the district. The problems have been increasing. What is your response to these allegations?
A: It takes more time for a new district to develop. We have to take up several developmental activities such as laying of main roads in the town, planting saplings on the dividers of the roads, construction of sewerage drains and parking arrangements. We are taking up one by one. We require everyone’s support regarding this.

Q: What would you say about the bad roads and the hardships faced by the pedestrians and the vehicle users?
A: It’s true that the roads aren’t in good condition. We couldn’t lay roads as it was rainy season. We have called for tenders to lay roads with approximately Rs 4 crore from the 14th Finance Commission municipal funds. We will start the works immediately.

Q: What about the allegations against the officials regarding negligence towards developmental activities? What about disputes during the meetings?
A: There is nothing of that sort. There are a few differences on how the development activities are to be carried out. We will organise meetings on a monthly basis according to the orders of the District Collector. We will strive for the development along with the government and officials.

Q: Did the municipal councillors express anguish regarding the Rs 70 lakh remained unspent which was meant for taking up developmental activities?
A: The accountant failed to deposit Rs 70 lakh that was sanctioned for burial ground and other developmental activities as the funds didn’t reach us on time. We sent report to CDMA. We will get funds again soon.

Q: What do you say about the allegations regarding sharing of commissions and corruption in the municipality?
A: They are all baseless rumours. We will certainly take action if anyone indulged in corruption.

Q: What works were undertaken for the development of the headquarters?
A: We will repair sewerage drains that were demolished from new bus complex to Nizam Sagar cross roads. We completed central LED lighting works. We will start planting saplings on the dividers. We will take up expansion of junctions.
