Water crisis deepens in 4 districts of Telangana
Even before the onset of summer, people of Adilabad, Mancherial, Nirmal and Asifabad districts are reeling under acute drinking water crisis in February itself.

In fact, 333 habitats in Adilabad and Nirmal districts and 41 in Asifabad are hit hard by the crisis as bore wells and other type of wells dried up completely. In Adilabad district, Digsur and Jalda in Ichchoda mandal and Chincholi in Boath mandal are facing acute water shortage.
Sepaking to The Hans India here on Tuesday, a resident of Digsur, Adellu said that she and other women have been fetching drinking water after trekking a distance of two km.
Residents of the village lamented that no official came forward to resolve the crisis and said that the villagers were spending Rs 250 for each house to buy water.
Tribals in the Agency areas of Narnur, Utnoor, Keramery and Indravelli mandals are fetching water from agriculture wells, which are two or three km away from their habitats.
In Utnoor mandal, residents of Lendiguda, Narsapur-B and Dharmajipet have been capturing water from drinking water springs and complained of people becoming sick upon drinking the polluted
water. A tribal woman Sakkubai said that the drinking water problem is throwing them out of work. Women were forced to forego their daily wage because of their preoccupation with fetching drinking water.
The villagers allege that officials are not paying attention to get the damaged bore wells repaired and to sink new wells.
A tribal leader Bhujanga Rao said that the government spent crores of rupees to provide drinking water in villages. But, not a single bore well, dug as part of the Japanese International Cooperative Agency (JICA) scheme is functional.
He alleged that the drinking water schemes became cash cows for officials and contractors. Furthermore, Rao lamented that no alternative arrangements have been made to supply water to villages.
He said the people have been appealing to the State government to identify the villages facing the drinking water shortage and supply water to them.
