Bibinagar: In a gruesome incident, a man for the want of a male child burnt alive his seven-month-old pregnant wife and his daughter at Ravipadu Thanda of Bibinagar mandal in Yadadri district in the early hours of Tuesday. The deceased were identified as Savithri and her daughter, Sridevi (6).
According to the kin of the deceased, Savithri married Banothu Shankar Naik seven years ago. The couple has two daughters. Shankar Naik, a labourer and an alcoholic, used to frequently quarrel with his wife over petty issues. Several times community elders had to intervene to settle the disputes between the couple.
Meanwhile, Savithri was forced to conceive for a male heir. Suspecting that Savithri would again deliver a girl child, Shankar Naik on Tuesday early hours took up a fight with his wife. Later, he poured kerosene on his two daughters and Savithri. Fearing for life, the couple’s younger daughter, Srinija (4) ran out and saved herself.
Naik set his wife and the elder daughter ablaze. He further called up his sister-in-law over phone and informed about the crime. Based on the complaint of Suresh, Savithri’s brother, Bibinagar SI Suresh registered a case and took up the probe.
