Karimnagar: Demanding the State government to solve the problems of students, several student unions have given a call for a state-wide bandh of all educational institutions on Friday. In this connection, a meeting was held with representatives of the DSU at the Shatavahana University in the town on Thursday.
Participating in the meeting, the district in-charge of Democratic Student Union (DSU), Janardhan said that the problems in the educational sector were increasing with each passing day after the formation of Telangana State.
Moreover, the ruling TRS government was encouraging the corporate and private educational institutions and was trying to shut down government schools and colleges, he alleged. Students were facing lot of hardships, he lamented.
Janardhan bemoaned that the educational institutions in the State run by the government were not equipped even with minimum basic facilities. The Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao promised the people of Telangana that he would introduce free education scheme from the KG to PG level during the 2014 general elections but now was trying to close down about 4,600 government schools in the State, he lamented.
He said that the government must withdraw the decision of closing of government schools and must appoint regular teachers in those schools by increasing the strength of government schools. Basic minimum facilities should also be provided, Janardhan demanded.
He also demanded the government to implement ‘mid-day meals scheme’ in government junior colleges and must upgrade all the model schools like that of Gurkul schools. Hostel facilities for boys should be introduced, he added.
Janardhan appealed all the students to make the call given for Bandh by various students unions a grand success and urged the managements of educational institutions to observe the bandh voluntarily on Friday. The representatives of DSU Ajay, Gautam, Sai, Anil, Rajesh and Uday were present along with others.
