Luxettipet: Due to dispute over the land, construction of Government Junior College building at Dandepalli was stopped. The construction work was commenced at a cost of Rs 44 lakhs in 2006 and the dispute over site surfaced when the works were completed up to roof level. As a result, the college is being run from a nearby Government High School building.

The accommodation for the junior college at the High school is inadequate as the students of high school and junior college have to share the classrooms. Junior college requires at least 16 rooms for its functioning.

Later, five sheds were built by spending Rs 8 lakh to accommodate some of the classes. In fact, minimum eight sheds are needed to run the junior college classes. Because of inadequate accommodation, three classes for junior college are being held under the shade of a tree.

Students are not showing interest to join the junior college for want of permanent building. It is high-time the officials and elected people’s representatives evinced some interest to get the junior college building completed by solving the land dispute.

Junior College Principal Madar Goud on Friday said that the students are facing difficulties to sit under the tree as they are all grownup. As a result, they are not evincing interest to attend the classes.

For want of accommodation, four laboratories – physics, chemistry, botany and zoology --are being held in one of the class rooms.

Construction of junior college building has been pending for the past 11 years. As the academic year (2017-18) has commenced, the MP and MLA of the area should intervene in the 11-year-old issue, solve the land problem and chalk out an action plan to complete the construction of the building, students and parents urge.
