Khammam: Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao ordered the officials of departments concerned to complete the Mission Bhagiratha works by October end and conduct a trial run in November.

The Minister chaired a review meeting with the officials and people’s representatives to discuss the progress of Mission Bhagiratha works that are underway in Khammam and Bhadradri-Kothagudem districts here at Technical Training and Development Centre (TTDC) in Khammam on Friday.

Addressing the officials, Tummala said the State government had started the prestigious Mission Bhagirtha project by investing thousands of crores of rupees for the betterment of people.

For completing the works in one go and supply pure drinking water to every household by giving tap connections, about Rs 3,558 crore were spent in the two districts. About Rs 1,507.65 crore were spent on the works in Palair, Wyra and Godavari and pipelines works covering 4,412.75 kilometres were completed, informed the Minister.

“The constructions works of about 580 overhead tanks and the works about 960 habitations for supplying water to about 342 villages in Palair segment, about 462 villages in Wyra segment and for about 1,856 villages under Godavari segment are underway,” added the Minister.

Asking the officials to concentrate on construction of overhead tanks, the R&B Minister directed the officials to complete works in time by coordinating with the officials of forest, environment, Railway and National Highways departments.

The Minister further stated that the representatives of other States such as Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Punjab visited Telangana to observe the Mission Bhagiratha works to start the same scheme in their respective States.

Khammam District Collector DS Lokesh Kumar said by deploying special officials, the pending works of overhead tanks and Intra-pipeline works would be completed as early as possible. Special measures were taken to supply water for villages. All the works were at final stage and would be completed soon, he added.

Bhadradri-Kothagudem Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu assured that necessary steps were taken to complete the pending works under Godavari segment by October end.

Khammam MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Gadepally Kavitha, MLAs Puvvada Ajay Kumar, Banothu Madan Lal, Thati Venkateshwarlu and Koram Kanakaiah, Chairman of the Industries and Seed Development Corporation Shaik Budan Baig, Kondabala Koteshwar Rao, DCCB Chairman Muvva Vijay Babu, Mission Bhagiratha Chief Engineer Vijaypal Reddy, Superintending Engineer K Srinivas, Executive Engineers Shyam Rao, Manikyala Rao, Ravinder and Sada Shiva, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive officer Marapaka Nagesh, City Municipal Commissioner B Srinivas and Engineers of R&B department were present along with others.
