Thousands of Malyalees in the twin cities will have a slice of Kerala’s own cultural extravaganza KERALA KALOTSAVAM 2013 on September 7 and 8 as part of their Onam celebrations in Rail Kalarang, Bhoiguda. The celebrations are being jointly organised by Confederation of Andhra Malayalee Associations (CAMA) and Thanal Malayali Seva Samiti to mark the biggest festival of God’s Own Country.

This is the first ever cultural programme promoted by Kerala government’s cultural department in Andhra Pradesh. Kerala’s Minister for Culture, K C Joseph, will inaugurate the function and Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Minister for IT & Communications, AP along with Geetha Reddy, Minister for Major Industries AP, would be present for this event. Senior members of Folklore Academy and Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademy and others will take part in the two day celebrations.

Around 150 artists specially flown in from Kerala will perform various traditional art forms including Kalarippayattu, Folk Songs, Kolkkali, Daffu Muttu, Arabana Muttu, Theyyam, Padayani, Mudiyettu, Pulikkali, Drama, Charadukuthi kali, Kadhaprasangam and many others for the two-day celebrations.
Artists and technicians from Tollywood also will attend the programme in order to have a first-hand experience of unique art forms from Kerala. The entry is free to all. There will also be ten food stalls on both days that will serve traditional delicious foods like Malabar Biriyani, Neypathiri, Neychoru and Kozhikkari, Karimeen pollichathu, Kerala Parata and Curry, variety of Dosas, Kappa meen curry, Palappam, Puttu, kadala etc.
Besides the Kerala Kalotsavam celebrations, Nair Service Society, Hyderabad will also be hosting celebrations for Onam on Sunday, September 8 with variety of cultural programmes and a sumptuous Onam feast (Onasadya) at Mahendra Reddy Gardens near Bowenpally beside Medchal National Highway. NSS is one of the leading socio-cultural organisations in the twin cities with a membership of about 600 families.
Popular actor Sarath will be the Chief Guest for the programme. The programme is scheduled to start at 9.30 am and Asianet fame Lunar Comedy stars team, Super Stars, will entertain the audience with a variety of acts like comedy shows, mimicry, Ganamela etc. The programme will also have the traditional Kaikottikkali followed by a meeting in which elders (Karanavanmar) will be honoured and merit scholarships will be distributed to eligible students and achievers will be felicitated.
The cultural programme will be followed by the traditional Onam feast from 12.30 pm. Buffet will be served along with the traditional plantain leaves, said General Secretary G Suresh Kumar, Vice President G Ramesh Kumar, Treasurer R Madhusudanan Pillai, Joint Secretary Anil Kumar and Organising Secretary V Appukuttan Nair.
