Jan ‘Ranjani’ of Hindustani Music. Ranjani was initiated into Hindustani music at a young age by her mother, Vijaya and took training from Pandit Kashinath Shankar Bodas, Veena Sahasrabuddhe and Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar.

Ranjani has been performing Hindustani music at many prestigious forums such as Vishnu Digambar Jayanti Samaroh (New Delhi), 31st Chandigarh Sangeet Sammelan , ITC Sangeet Sammelans (Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai), Sangeet Pratibha festival of Sangeet Natak Academy, Nehru Centre (London), Learn Quest Academy(Boston), Dadar Matunga Cultural Centre, (Mumbai) and India Habitat Centre(New Delhi). Ranjani was initiated into Hindustani music at a young age by her mother, Vijaya and took training from Pandit Kashinath Shankar Bodas, Veena Sahasrabuddhe and Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar.

The young musician began the concert with Raga Shree. The 16 beat Teental composition ‘Chalo Re Mai Rama Siya Darasana Ko’ was sung melodiously and with an amazing control over the ‘swaras’. This was followed by a beautiful composition ‘Baware Bawari’ set to the 12 beats Ektaal. She then took up Raga Behagada. She sang ‘Raina Dina Kaise Kaate, Tarasata Piya Bina’ and brought out the essence of the song that talks of the ‘Naayika’s’ yearning for her beloved. She then sang a Bhajan and concluded the evening with ‘Garaaja Aayo Re Badarawa’ in Raga Mia Malhar set to 16 beat Teental.
The ‘Aakar Taans’, ‘Bol Taans’ and the command over ‘Laya’ truly proved Ranjani’s expertise in presenting a mellifluous recital. She was accompanied on the Tabla by Najmuddin Qadri and on the Harmonium by Surendra Bharati. Together they were in perfect sync with Ranjani at the helm. It was very heartening to see young students of the University forming a part of the audience at the concert. The evening ended with Dr D Balasubramaniam of LV Prasad Eye Institute felicitating the artistes while Prof Haribabu, Pro-Chancellor, University of Hyderabad thanked the artistes for their performance. Incidentally Ranjani is also the grand-daughter of the former President of India, Late R Venkatraman.
