Silk has been intermingled with the life and culture of the Indians. The silk sarees of India are among the living examples of the excellent craftsmanship of the weavers of the country. From the famous silk sarees of Kancheepuram to our very own Dharmavaram and Pochampalli silks, women love to drape the 9-yard piece of wonder. The ‘Srimathi Silk Mark Hyderabad 2013’ auditions organised by the Silk Mark Organisation of India, Hyderabad chapter fascinated the audience on Wednesday. On this occasion women from different walks of life including professionals participated actively in the auditions.
The contestants mesmerised the audience in traditional saris. Around 40 contestants participated in the event where eminent personalities from the fashion world acted as jurists. The jurists included fashion choreographer Joseph Sundar, Colorz Beauty Studio MD Shravani Reddy, Secunderabad Cantonment Rotary Club president Dr Seeta Vuppala and Sericulture Commissioner, Rama Lakshmi IFS. The event witnessed women professionals such as doctors, lawyers, employees and housewives actively participating in the sari competition. Central Silk Board deputy secretary Satish Kumar, senior Silk Mark executive Y Srinivas Rao said that the expo would start from September 28. As part of this program, for the first time ‘Srimathi Silk Mark’ competition was organised.
The main aim of the program is to promote the traditional Indian culture of wearing sari among the present generation and to take the silk clothes closer to the people.
