After the GHMC, now it is the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) which has proposed to come up with the much needed automated multi- level parking facilities in the crowded parts of twin cities.
The HMDA executive committee recently announced to set up an exclusive integrated automatic multi-level parking facility at Ameerpet in a land area of 1,648 square yard where two Hyderabad Metro lines would be criss-crossing.
“The project is proposed in public-private-partnership (PPP) mode and is being designed to accommodate over 200 two wheelers and over 1000 two wheelers. It is expected to be completed in 18 months and is estimated to cost around Rs 22 crore,” said Madhva Raja, chief engineer.
He also added that another automated multi-level parking-cum-retail commercial complex has also been proposed at Kothapet near Saroornagar in a 2.24 acre site.
HMDA Commissioner Neerabh Kumar Prasad said the project is waiting for the approval from the government and once given a nod, tenders will be open for the private parties.
Meanwhile, the exclusive automated multi-level parking facility proposed by GHMC at Khilawat near Charminar of Old City is also waiting for approval from the government, said an official.
In this regard, IL&FS Engineering and Construction Company Ltd has received a Letter of Intent to construct automated parking facility. Estimated at a total value of Rs 35.04 crore that includes design engineering, civil and structural works, the facility would accommodate 440 cars and 250 scooters.
In addition, GHMC is also scouting for land area for multi-level parking complexes in different parts of the city. It had written to the government seeking land for construction of parking complexes in open sites of Ameerpet, Kukatpally, M.G. Road, Masab Tank, Mehdipatnam, Toli Chowki, Paradise, R.P. Road, Old Gandhi Medical College Secunderabad Railway Station, Dilsukhnagar, Ghansi Bazaar, Begum Bazaar, near High Court, and other commercial markets.
The move of establishing parking facilities came up after the city traffic police’s report to the government on shortage of parking lots leading to traffic chaos. As the shops and establishments fail to provide parking space to their customers they end up parking vehicles on roads and in turn get penalised.
HMDA officials said that they will take up the project work after a thorough study in coordination with the GHMC and the Hyderabad Traffic Police.
