CPI (M), GHCC secretary PSN Murthy alleged that the GHMC authorities are showing a sizable bias towards VIPs when it comes to sanitation. He said that 2,174 workers are allotted in Circle-10 which is only 80km long, while 1988 workers are allotted to Circle-4 which is 425km long .
Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI (M)’s Greater Hyderabad Central Committee (GHCC), secretary PSN Murthy, alleged that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is biased towards VIPs, when it comes to health and sanitation.
He flayed the GHMC policy bias in providing better amenities to VIP areas than that of the common man.
In a press statement released, he said that the areas like Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, where VIPs and senior bureaucrats live, the areas are swept everyday and garbage is cleared immediately and all out efforts are made to ensure that those areas are spic and spot clean. “It is completely opposite at slums and basthis.
The roads are not swept everyday and the garbage is being piled up at the dumpsters making it difficult for the people to live,” Murthy lamented.
“2,174 sanitation workers are allotted to the 80 km stretch of area at circle 10 where VIPs live, where as 425 km stretch in circle 4 at Old City has only 1988 workers. 20 workers per km are working in circle 10 to 3 workers per km in circle 4. Same is the case in other circles as well,” he added.
Murthy lashed out at the GHMC senior officials that because of less sanitation staff, there are instances where in not even once in a week the roads are swept. He also alleged that sweeping and cleaning only takes place whenever an elected representative visits the locality.
“LB Nagar in particular is worst hit as the sweepers have to do the sewerage cleaning too, because of this instead of transporting the garbage to dumping yard they are burning that on the roads,” he lamented.
He demanded the GHMC authorities to take a swift action to remove the bias in sanitation works and asked to allot personnel based on population.
