The Rashtrapati Nilayam premises is being thrown open for the general public between January 6-12. The move is part of the President’s people-friendly initiatives. The public can enjoy the lush green lawns of the historic Rashtrapati Bhavan which has plants with medicinal values.

Rashtrapati Nilayam Decked Up For Public

Mahesh Babu junior engineer, at the Nilayam, said, “Rashtrapati Nilayam would be open to the public between 10am-5pm. This is the fourth year where the public would get an opportunity to visit the Nilayam. Entry will be free and visitors will have to enter through Gate Number 2.

Official communication in this regard, will be given in a couple of days. As the president left on Monday to Delhi, preparations are underway for the public view.”

The highlight of this year was the inauguration of Nakshatra Vatika, where the sacred Ashoka sapling was planted by Pranab Mukherjee on December 30, 2013. The Nakshatra Vatika is spread over in 1.20 acres.

The President said, "It helps us to know how people worshipped trees from times immemorial in the country. Besides helping promotion of vegetation in and around our habitations, Nakshatra Vatika would be of great help to the people to reduce stress and strain.”

48 varieties of special plants are likely to be planted in the garden. At the herbal garden, there are more than 126 varieties of medicinal plants and many varieties of fruit bearing trees.
